Abraham Lincoln High School, Class of 2020
Why is service important to you?
I feel that it is my duty to inspire the youth to strive for greatness no matter the odds stacked against them because I myself have been in the very same shoes. I graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School as an honor student with the title of valedictorian, so I know the kind of excitement that comes with being very involved in your academic community. I have personal experience being a student mentor for my peers and inspiring kids just like me to pursue making a difference.
What do you love about Philly?
I love Philly because Philly is the place I am proud to call home. I have traveled all around the world and met people of all cultures, but one thing I will never forget is where I am from. I am very grateful to have been born and raised in a city like mine, and I believe that there is no place like home. I serve as a leader and a positive role model in my community to the youth and my younger siblings, and I cherish the fact that I can inspire so many young kids to avoid trouble and do great things. Philadelphia has a lot of talent, creativity, and diversity, and I want to be part of why those things are brought to light. It's time to show outsiders that beyond the negative things that are highlighted in my city, there is greatness and success being portrayed by our youth. These children are seeds that have already been planted; let's water them and help them grow together!
