Sylvia Spivey is a native Philadelphian and the Executive Director at Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, Inc. (MNM). Mercy Neighborhood Ministries provides quality intergenerational programming with an array of services that fall into the areas of Early Education & Youth Development, Adult Education & Workforce Development, and Adult Day Care. Through their programming and partnerships, MNM works to break the cycle of poverty affecting 23% of people in the city of Philadelphia.
Prior to joining the team at MNM, she served as Executive Director of The Philadelphia Chapter of Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program, a program specifically designed to inspire, motivate, and empower young women attending high schools across the City of Philadelphia. The bulk of Sylvia’s career was spent building her non-profit and philanthropic expertise at the Philadelphia Foundation (PF) where she oversaw the distribution of over $1.5 million in scholarships annually.
Sylvia’s passion for philanthropy and community service was ignited by both her maternal and paternal grandmothers, who lived lives of service to the North Philadelphia Community where they raised their families. Her grandmothers instilled the importance of helping others to live up to their full potential. Sylvia has a certificate in nonprofit management from Drexel University and established her career commitment to the nonprofit sector while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications at Liberty University.
